Rainy Monday in New York City. On a day like this, we like to think of somewhere warm, sunny, and colorful...like INDIA for example? Well, we have just the story for you which takes place in Bagalore, India.
Back in February, we introduced you to our very good friend, Terumi. She is currently working in the city while completing an Executive MBA with UCLA-NUS program in business management. Terumi came to our HappyDoll office to share her fantastic idea of becoming a HappyDoll ambassador during her 10 day global program in India.
Now Terumi is back from India with a bag full of wonderful stories, photos, and HAPPYDOLLS!
Within their busy schedules, Terumi and her classmates were able to become a liaison between HappDoll and an organization called SUKRUPA !
This organization in Bungalow works with deprived children and young adults by providing secure environment and education to enable them to escape poverty and life in the slum. The founder, Krupa, ended her lucrative career in the US as a consultant to setup the non-profit in 2002 after seeing the urban slums and the rural poverty in India over a four-week vacation. The inspiration for the organization came from her mother, who started teaching 8 street children in the slum.
Krupa has also founded SUKRUPA Creations, a social enterprise to empower women and young people from underprivileged communities through skills training and employment. Many parents of the children supported by Sukrupa are able to find employment through SUKRUPA Creations, and the profit from their creative products funds the organization.
Currently, Krupa is looking for partnerships in setting up SUKRUPA Creations in the US and marketing the products.
A warm welcome from SUKRUPA!
Terumi and her HappyDoll Team ( Alejandra, Amit, Juliana, Matthew, Maxim, and Sindu) worked with 102 students! Amit has made a fabulous video of the event which captures the warm, fun, and exciting atomosphere of the session!
We are both STUNNED and AMAZED by these beautiful art works sent from the children in India.... (These are only a few out of 102!)
We just HAD to post some close ups of the dolls...too bad we can't post all 102!
<Matthew> The experience as a volunteer was amazing!! Being able to participate in the activities with the children; witnessing their raw joy to create the personalized dolls and unselfish giving as they packed them for other children they may never meet. The program really helps connect the positive spirit of the world.
<Juliana> It has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I was inspired, empowered and so emotionally touched by all these kids and their lovely attitudes towards painting and playing with the dolls! I think is a fantastic way to bring the world together and create some joy for so many unprivileged kids!
Stay tuned! We’ve got more exciting events coming your way…
