We hope you're enjoying the end of fall as Thanksgiving approaches! This month, HappyDoll had the honor of collaborating with MIKI HOUSE, a renowned Japanese fashion house for toddlers, especially known for their beautifully designed shoes. This Japanese brand has 4 branches in San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, and Miami.
On November 10th, we were invited to hold a HappyDoll session at Bloomingdale's Aventura in Florida to decorate happydolls with the children visiting the MIKI HOUSE store. The following day, we delivered these fun dolls to the children at the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, the only hospital in South Florida dedicated exclusively to children.
Bloomindale Aventura, now illuminating with holiday decorations, is full of holiday spirit and packed with families!
People crowded around the HappyDoll booth as they saw children decorating their one and only HappyDoll. The Floridian dolls are unique and colorful as if to reflect the diversity of the community. Seeing their children enjoying themselves, many of the family members joined in and decorated dolls as well! Coincidentally, one of the women who stopped by at the booth turned out to be a grandmother whose grandchildren were hospitalized at the Miami Children's Hospital. When she found out the dolls were going to travel to the children at the ward, she asked if she could also decorate a doll to express her gratitude to the hospital. Another girl we met used to be treated at the hospital for her asthma, and decided to decorate a doll for us to bring to the ward as well.
One boy who used to live in New York but moved to Florida traveled 4 hours by car with his mother to participate in this event. They told us they are big fans of MIKI HOUSE and were looking forward to making a HappyDoll.
We were also fortunate to see a new friendship bloom between two boys who happened to decorate their HappyDolls next to each other. As they worked on their dolls, one of them shared his heartbreaking experience of being bullied in school last year. He said it made him want to skip school but he noticed the bullie's change in behavior once he learned to forgive. Finally, when the dolls were completed, the two boys asked each other, "will we meet again?" as they placed their HappyDolls in the suitcase.
The following day, 60 decorated HappyDolls traveled to the Miami Children's Hospital.
We were able to meet some children and their families who were being treated at the hospital, and had them decorate dolls as well!
We met Emily (below) who shared with us that she loves this hospital very much even though being sick can be tough sometimes.
When we showed the children the dolls that had traveled from Vietnam, Honduras, India, and New York, they all gasped in surprise. One child yelled, "that's awesome!".
We look forward to continue making more HappyDolls with many more children around the world, and to connect children and deliver beautiful smiles each time.
Finally, a VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone at MIKI HOUSE, Bloomingdale's, and Miami Children's Hospital for the wonderful opportunity to work with such lovely children.
We hope everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!
